** We will be photographing ONE DAY of Limited Edition Boudoir Sessions on Saturday, March 10th. **

Please email the studio to sign up for your session, or call 970-234-9339.

With Jami’s permission, I am posting a few photos here from her last boudoir session. If you know Jami, you know she has a big smile and the heart to go with it. Her photographs reflect who she is on the inside. She is natural, beautiful, someone who relishes the simple life, and she loves her husband and children more than anything. I hope she always sees how beautiful she is and why she is loved so much… here and now.

These natural beauties were created by the lovely and talented Ashley Krest of Field Florals in Paonia, Colorado. Ashley has a degree in sustainable agriculture, and grows her flowers on her organic flower farm. I was so impressed with her creativity. She came to the wedding at Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa with a bucket of flowers, and arranged all the bouquets and centerpieces on the spot.

The Raw Canvas Gallery

I remember sitting in their living room a couple of years ago, munching on chips and salsa and talking about his dream: to help give artists in Grand Junction a place to express their creative voice and gain exposure.

Well, that dream is now a reality, and I am proud of my friend Justin and his wife Shauna. Their gallery, The Raw Canvas, is an artist co-op style art gallery with space for over a dozen local artists to display their unique work. Their goal is simple, “Be Unique, Be Seen, Be Known.”

I was thrilled to attend the grand-reopening of their new Main street location last Friday night. It was packed from wall to wall, the atmosphere buzzing with chatter, laughter and live music. As a photographer it was exciting to see all different kinds of people coming out to support the local art community.

The next time your downtown strolling around or shopping, stop into their new gallery space on 507 Main Street.

Bridal Fair 2012

This past Saturday Cat Mayer Studio participated in the bridal fair at the Hilton Doubletree in Grand Junction. Our space was designed by the talented Robin Brown of Toast! Event Planning & Design. She dreamt up a heavenly pom-topped confection that definitely made a sweet, feminine statement. She also hand-crafted a beautiful tea-length paper wedding gown completely out of tissue paper. The gown was a showstopper and definitely the icing on the wedding cake! These are the kinds of unique things Robin dreams up for weddings. She is full of creative surprises. It was fun for Vanessa and me to connect with so many great people—both brides and vendors alike! We brought some of our large 30×40 gallery wrapped canvas portraits. Wedding photos can be beautiful artwork for a couple’s new home. What would a bridal fair be without chocolate and mimosas?
David’s Bridal showcased gowns from Vera Wang’s WHITE line.
Here we are… Robin, Cat, Vanessa and Megan who partners with Toast! to handcraft one-of-a-kind stationery for weddings and all occasions. Special thanks to Chad Mahlum of Lifestyle Studio Booth for snapping this shot of us, and to Gina of Elite Events for lending some last-minute equipment to get our space up and running.
We had a little area for snapshots from some of our past weddings. I love snapshots!

Have a great week!

Wedding Week : What I Remember from My Wedding

Drew and I were married after a whirlwind romance that had us saying “I do” at his parents’ home in the Colorado mountains over Labor Day weekend 10 years ago. We had the ceremony up on the big front porch with all our family and friends surrounding us with their love and support. Drew’s 85-year-old grandfather, Pastor Martin Mayer, gave a speech I will never forget both for its comedy and its wisdom. The vows, the rings, the kiss, the family and friends… I never felt the love of so many people at once. It still makes my heart happy just to think about it.

After the ceremony, a family friend took us to the reception by the lake in a carriage drawn by two large, black horses. Our wonderful caterer had surprised us with a picnic basket full of nibbles from the reception so we could eat during the ride. His note told us that with all the excitement and talking with guests, we would probably forget to eat. Wise man. The ride was so classic and probably my favorite part of the day. I loved having that time alone with Drew to enjoy the fact that we were now married. It felt so crazy to be someone’s wife, and I remember how surreal it seemed to see Drew wearing a wedding ring.

Our wedding was photographed all on film, and my wedding album is simple with only our 20 favorite photos from that day. (Today, we craft wedding albums a bit differently, as you can see here.) When I look through mine, I remember how my silk gown felt—so soft and perfectly made just for me. My bouquet of flowers was vibrant red and  gave big bursts of color against the pine wood cabin and the sea of evergreen trees. I remember who was there, and how pretty the sunset was that night. I love seeing that my grandfather, Drew’s grandparents and of course Drew’s mother were all there with us, now gone. I remember how joyful we all were, and how much fun we all had that night.

Mostly I am grateful for the experience. Nothing could ever live up to that day in my mind. We stood up in front of everyone we care about and proclaimed that we would love each for as long as we have. Drew is the love of my life, and I’m so glad we started out our life together the way we did. He loves, appreciates and respects me, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. He knows I feel the same way about him. Secretly, I would do anything for him because I know he would never take it for granted.
